Plague Inc. Nano-Virus Brutal Guide / Walkthrough

The Nano-Virus plague type is the 6th out of the 7 basic plagues available when you get Plague Inc. It is unlocked by successfully finishing the previous plague, Prion(Prion Brutal Guide Here). Every plague type has its own unique abilities and this one is no different.

The Nano-Virus has 7 unique abilities namely, Code Fragment Interception, Radical Element Stabilised, Code Segment Interception, Replication Factory Overload, Encryption Breached, Broadcast Interception Overload, and Drug Immunity. I won’t go into much detail about these abilities, but their main purpose is to slow down and lessen the cure progression.

Knowing the Nano-Virus’ abilities do gives us some ideas of how this plague type works. Basically, once you start your plague in a particular country, the cure progression starts immediately. This is because, as the description says, the Nano-Virus has a kill switch. This can be a real pain to deal with especially in brutal difficulty. Don’t fret though, I got just the guide to help you through it.

I only have one strategy for Nano-Virus and it’s not a 100% win rate strategy. There are times where countries close their harbors or borders before my plague could infect them. You can’t really count on the random country infection since it happens very rarely so when this happens you have no choice but to start over.

Before we start, let me just warn you about a few things:

  1. This strategy requires you to evolve certain symptoms, abilities, and transmissions as soon as you have the DNA to evolve them. 
  2. The cure progression starts once you select the first country to infect.
  3. Sometimes you’ll fail because you can’t infect a particular country. Don’t worry just start over.
  4. You need ATP Boost. Why? Because we’ll evolve some abilities and symptoms before we select a country to start in.

First things first, the gene setup I used:

  • ATP Boost — see no. 4 above
  • Genetic Mimic — It slows the cure progression
  • Aquacyte — makes it easier to infect countries like Greenland and Iceland which are only accessible by ship
  • Extremophile — plague boost in every environment
  • Sympto-Stasis — Symptom costs will not increase, some will even cost 0 DNA to evolve

Without further ado, the strategy:

Before selecting a country to start in evolve the following:

  • Code Fragment Interception
  • Coughing
  • Cysts
  • Abscesses
  • Insomnia
  • Paranoia

Now, Start your plague in India.

As soon as you have the DNA, evolve the following in this order:

  • Code Segment Interception
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Drug Resistance 1
  • Genetic Hardening 1

Important: If a pop-up appears saying that an airplane or ship are sterilized, prioritize evolving either Air or Water 1 right away. If by some chance you don’t know which one to evolve

Airplanes = Air 1

Ship = Water 1

Once again, Evolve the following in this order:

  • Genetic Hardening 2
  • Hyper-Sensitivity
  • Paralysis
  • Coma
  • Water and Air 1
  • Water and Air 2
  • Extreme Bioaerosol
  • Seizures
  • Insanity
  • Radical Elements Stabilised
  • Drug Resistance 2
  • Cold Resistance 1 and 2
  • Pneumonia
  • Sneezing
  • Rash
  • Sweating
  • Skin Lesions
  • Diarrhoea
  • Encryption Breached
  • Drug Immunity

Note: Once every country is infected(You can check by clicking World-Data-Infection Spread Summary), it would be a good idea to also evolve Replication Factory Overload to increase infectivity for a short time.

Note: At random times a symptom might mutate, when this happens I suggest that you devolve it right away. Why? Because some mutated symptoms might be too lethal and cause your Nano-Virus to kill people faster than infecting them. You can stop devolving mutated symptoms once every country is infected.

As soon as you get a pop-up saying something like «there are no more healthy people left…», Go evolve every symptom you possibly can. Doing so will make your Nano-Virus so deadly that it would only take weeks to kill everyone.

After evolving every symptom, you’ll get a huge stream of DNA. I recommend allocating these to Genetic Re-Shuffles since it lowers the cure progression. This becomes especially useful if you find yourself having a high cure progression at this point.

Note: This isn’t necessary but you could evolve Broadcast Interceptor Overload shortly after getting a pop-up stating that your plague is about to eradicate humanity. It lowers the cure progression just for stats sake. Again, this is optional.

Plague Inc – How to Beat Nano Virus on Brutal – GameTipCenter

Beating Nano Virus on Brutal is fairly similar to beating it on Normal, but you have to be a little more aggressive because the cure builds a bit quicker.

You’ll need to invest in just about every ability that reduces the cure. Don’t get too alarmed when the cure begins to rise right from the start, you’ll be able to slow it down enough in the end to win.

Gene Setup for Nano Virus on Brutal

DNA Gene: Metabolic Jump
Travel Gene: Aquacyte
Evolution Gene: Patho-Stasis
Mutation Gene: Genetic Mimic
Environment Gene: Extremophile

Starting your Nano Virus

Start in China since it’s the largest country and has general benefits to all climates.

You’re going to start fighting the cure immediately, since the kill switch starts being built before the world is even aware of your plague.

Purchase Code Fragment Interception and Radical Elements Stabilized on the Abilities page right as soon as you have points for them. Next purchase Code Segment Interception and Encryption Breached on Abilities as well. This will slow the kill switch work quite a bit.

Now that you have a little cushion, you can start spreading more. Purchase Air 1 and Water on Transmissions when you have enough points.

Next buy these symptoms: Nausea, Coughing, Rash, Anaemia, Cysts, Hypersensitivity, Paralysis, Coma as soon as you can. If Total Organ Failure ever mutates before everyone is infected, devolve it immediately.

Take down some of the resistances by purchasing Drug Resistance 1 and Cold Resistance 1, Heat Resistance 1, and then Genetic Hardening 1 and 2 here as well to slow down the kill switch some more.

When you’ve spread some more and banked a few more points, purchase Air 2, Water 2, and Extreme Bioaerosol under Transmissions.

You should be making some good progress at this point, and a lot of points. The cure will keep rising, but don’t panic yet because you should still have time. The end moves pretty quickly once the planet is infected.

Load up on some more infectious symptoms like Sneezing, Pneumonia, Sneezing, Sweating, Haemophilia, and Abscesses.

A ton of points should be rolling in right about now. Purchase Drug Immunity, Drug Resistance 2, Cold Resistance 2, and all of the Genetic Reshuffles under Abilities.

If you have any closed land borders that need to be infected at this point, you can purchase Bird 1 & 2 to help infect them. This is when I like to unleash Replication Factory Overload under Abilities to give your plague a huge boost in infectivity for a short period, but the side effect will be a reduction in Infectivity in the long run, which is fine because we’re about done spreading anyway. After you purchase Replication Factory Overload, you can purchase Drug Immunity as well to increase infectivity back up in wealthy countries.


Once everyone in the planet is infected, it’s time to unleash hell!

Purchase Total Organ Failure, and any other deadly symptom you can afford. The more people die, the slower the cure will build and the more points you’ll receive to purchase more deadly symptoms. Don’t let up, and keep throwing whatever you can at them.

If the cure builds close to 100 during this process (it shouldn’t, but just in case) purchase Broadcast Interceptor Overload, which stops the cure entirely for several weeks. This should give you enough time to kill off enough people to slow it entirely.

Plague Inc. Nano-Virus Mega-Brutal Guide/ Walkthrough/ Strategy

It took quite a few tries and fails, but I was finally able to find a solid strategy for Nano-Virus in Mega-Brutal difficulty. The first few games were a struggle to slow down the cure progress, the next set of games became a puzzle of how to infect the island countries. I might sound arrogant, but I can assure you that my guide/strategy will always net you a 5 out of 5 biohazard score with every game.

I did at least 5 games using this same strategy over and over again to make sure that it always works. Luckily enough, it always does. The key to this strategy is balancing the evolution of infectious symptoms and cure-slowing abilities. You can’t really focus on one particular side since the other tends to make you pay for not giving enough attention to it. That’s about enough background on this strategy, so let’s get started.

Once you select a country to start Nano-Virus in, the cure progression starts at the same time. That is the probably the primary reason why beating this plague is hard in both brutal and mega-brutal difficulties. If you want to get the best possible score by using this strategy, follow the order I evolve symptoms, transmissions, and abilities unless told otherwise. I’ll try to explain why I evolved this and that while we move along the strategy.

Before starting, make sure you have these genes equipped:

  • ATP Boost — we’ll need this because we’re going to evolve a few stuff before selecting a country to start in.
  • Aquacyte — makes those hard to reach island countries, that are only accessible by ship, easier to infect.
  • Sympto-Stasis — this gene stops the increase of DNA costs of symptoms every time you evolve but it increases the speed of the cure progression. This is probably the most important gene to have.
  • Genetic Mimic — slows down the cure progression. The primary reason we need this is to counter the cure speed increase that sympto-stasis has.
  • Extremophile — gives a small boost on every climate. Very useful.

1. Before selecting a country to start in, we’ll need to evolve a few things:

  • Code Fragment Interception
  • Coughing
  • Cysts
  • Hyper Sensitivity
  • Insomnia
  • Paranoia

It might seem that you won’t have enough DNA to evolve everything above, but you do. Insomnia and Paranoia costs nothing to evolve.

2. Start in China or Saudi Arabia (Saudi seems to be recommended a lot by other people and its airplane paths really provide a boost into infecting countries sooner)

3. Evolve the following symptoms in any order you want. I recommend evolving the cheaper ones first

  • Rash
  • Sweating
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Pneumonia
  • Sneezing
  • Abscesses
  • Anaemia
  • Haemophilia

4. Continue by evolving the next set of symptoms(if they aren’t mutated yet), transmissions, and abilities in this exact order. It is highly recommended that you evolve something once you have the DNA to do so. Why? Because Genetic Shifts happen, and when they do they’d most likely increase the costs.

  • Code Segment Interception
  • Water and Insect 1
  • Paralysis
  • Coma
  • Skin Lesions
  • Diarrhoea
  • Water and Insect 2
  • Radical Elements Stabilised
  • Drug Resistance 1
  • Genetic Hardening 1 and 2
  • Drug Resistance 2
  • Seizures
  • Insanity
  • Cold Resistance 1 and 2
  • Necrosis
  • Dysentery
  • Encryption Breached
  • Replication Factory Overload
  • Genetic Re-Shuffles 1, 2, and 3
  • Heat Resistance 1 and 2

By following this order of evolution, cure progress won’t even hit 70%. Again, evolve every time you get the needed DNA.

5. At this point, you’ll have to wait until the whole world is infected, you’ll get a prompt saying that there are no healthy people left. Once this happens, evolve every lethal symptom you can. I suggest getting Total Organ Failure and Hemorrhagic Shock maybe even Internal Hemorrhaging. There are times though that you will have enough DNA to evolve every remaining symptom.

6. From here on, people will start dying fast. Wait for a pop-up saying something like «Nano-virus is about to eradicate humanity», after that shows up evolve Broadcast Interceptor Overload. This significantly lowers the cure progression which in turn boosts your highscore.

How to Beat Virus on Brutal – GameTipCenter

In Plague Inc. for the Android & iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, etc.), Virus on Brutal isn’t nearly as difficult as Virus initially was the first time you played it.

I have listed my gene setup below. I have all genes unlocked, which just requires winning 25 games. You don’t need to unlock all of the genes to win this one, but a couple that I typically use are unlocked near the end.

DNA Gene – Metabolic Jump (Bonus DNA on red bio-hazard bubbles)
Travel Gene – Native Biome (Bonus infectivity in starting country, if you don’t have this one use Teracyte instead)
Evolution Gene – Sympto-Stasis (Symptoms don’t increase in cost)
Mutation Gene – Genetic Mimic (Slows down cure research)
Environment Gene – Extremophile (Minor bonus to all environments, if you don’t have this use any other you have unlocked)

The basic strategy here is extremely fast infection, and getting a lot of points with Metabolic Jump when your Virus spreads to other countries.

With Sympto-Stasis, your symptoms are extremely cheap, allowing you to buy a lot of symptoms at a fast rate.

Stage 1

  • Start in China
  • Symptoms: Rash, Sweating, Skin Lesions, Coughing, Sneezing, devolve any lethal symptoms mutated
  • Transmissions: Air 1, Water 1
  • Abilities: Drug Resistance 1

Stage 2

  • Transmissions: Air 2, Water 2, Extreme Bioaerosol
  • Symptoms: Load up on every infectious symptom possible that has no lethality, devolve any lethal symptoms mutated
  • Abilities: Cold 1, Heat 1

Stage 3

  • Your Virus should be spreading wildly, the world will be alarmed when China has around 600 million infected with all of the symptoms you have
  • Transmissions: Bird 1 and 2, Livestock 1 and 2, Blood 1 and 2
  • Symptoms: Start adding minor lethal symptoms to gain access to deadly symptoms, like Paralysis, Coma, Immune Suppression, etc.
  • Abilities: Genetic Hardening 1 and 2

Stage 4

  • Most countries will be infected, around 4 billion of the population, and you’re gaining DNA points faster than you can spend them
  • Transmissions: Load up, you should have a lot of extra points
  • Symptoms: Keep loading up on minor lethal symptoms
  • Abilities: Viral Instabilities if you want your symptoms to go crazy, it’s not really necessary though

Stage 5

  • All countries infected, around 5 to 6 billion of the population, time to unleash hell!
  • Symptoms: Total Organ Failure, Necrosis, Hemorrhagic Shock, Internal Hemorrhaging
  • Transmissions: You should be about full by now, not really necessary
  • Abilities: Genetic Reshuffles if the cure gets too high, but it shouldn’t really

Stage 6

  • Everyone is infected, the world is quickly plummeting into chaos!
  • Symptoms: Throw every lethal symptom at them that you can afford
  • Congrats, you win!

Yo It’s Spicy: Plague Inc. Unknown Origin: Nano-Virus Mega-Brutal(3 Biohazard) Guide

Nano-Virus always starts with the cure already being at the development stage, although it hasn’t been really detected yet. The good thing about this plague type is that symptoms are much more cheaper than other plague types—cure-slowing symptoms even cost nothing to evolve.

What you really have to watch out for while playing Nano-Virus is the cure progression. It might seem a little slow at start, but as soon as the plague gets detected it’ll take mere months for the cure to be completed. That being said, always take full advantage of cure-slowing symptoms and abilities, especially Nano-Virus’ unique abilities.

Strategies posted here will also work for a normal non-scenario game of Nano-Virus. The Unknown Origin scenario, simply put, will only choose your starting country for you, thus making it seem like just like any other normal game.

Spicy’s Strategy

I have tested this strategy a number of times in a normal game of Nano-Virus in mega-brutal difficulty. While having India as the origin country, the best final stats I had were finishing within 290 days with a cure completion of 26%.

Although I had no luck in having India as my starting country in the scenario itself, I’ve found that this strategy would also work for the following countries(I’ve included screenshots of the final stats I had):

  • India — This is a screenshot of the stats of a normal game I had while testing the strategy

I have not made any changes to strategy for each country. I stuck with the strategy and evolution order all through-out each game.

Recommended Gene Setup:
  • ATP Boost — Having this gene will help tremendously since we are able to evolve some symptoms at the earliest part of the game.
  • Aquacyte — Island countries will always be a pain to infect. This gene will boost ship transmissions to help out with those pesky island countries.
  • Sympto-Stasis — Nano-Virus already has cheap symptoms, and having this gene will make it stay cheap and prevent the 1 DNA increase on every symptom evolved.
  • Genetic Mimic — You start with the cure already being developed. The least we could do is to slow it down.
  • Extremophile — You’ll never know which country you’ll be started in, having this gene will give a small boost to infection rates.
Let’s Get Started

1.) Wait for your pre-selected country. If you’re using this guide for a normal game, select India as your starting country. Obviously, you’d want to start in India—or the ones I’ve listed above that were successfully finished.

2.) Immediately after popping the first red bubble, evolve the following symptoms in this order:

  • Coughing
  • Rash
  • Insomnia
  • Paranoia 
  • Cysts
  • Hyper Sensitivity
  • Paralysis 
  • Coma
  • Abscesses
  • Sneezing
  • Sweating
  • Skin Lesions
  • Seizures
  • Insanity

3.) Some of the symptoms above will cost 0 DNA to evolve. At this point, If any lethal symptom mutates devolve them immediately. Continue by evolving the following in this order:

  • Code Fragment Interception
  • Code Segment Interception
  • Water 1
  • Air 1
  • Water 2
  • Bird 1
  • Radical Elements Stabilised
  • Air 2
  • Extreme Bioaerosol

4.) Do not be too alarmed by the rapid progression of the cure, this strategy was built in a way that the cure would never reach more than 90%. Again, continue by evolving the following in this order:

  • Cold Resistance 1
  • Drug Resistance 1
  • Cold Resistance 2
  • Necrosis
  • Drug Resistance 2
  • Encryption Breached
  • Dysentery
  • Diarrhoea
  • Pulmonary Oedema
  • Pneumonia
  • Genetic Hardening 1 & 2

5.) At this stage of the game, we’ll have to wait until every country is infected. Check your infection spread summary(World-Data) to check if every country is infected. Once every country has been infected, evolve Replication Factory Overload.

Wait for a pop-up of either the end of the replication overload or the complete infection of the world(No one healthy pop-up)—Usually, replication overload ends first. After one of those two things happen, evolve the following:

  • Total Organ Failure
  • Hemorrhagic Shock
  • Internal Haemorrhaging
  • Tumours
  • Systemic Infection
  • Genetic Re-Shuffle 1, 2, and 3

6.) People should be dying off quickly now. Right before the complete eradication of humanity, a pop-up usually shows up saying «[plague name] about to eradicate humanity». After seeing this pop-up, immediately evolve Broadcast Interceptor Overload to take a bit off the current cure progression.
