How to read palms – A Really Useful Guide That’ll Help You Learn How to Read Palms

How to Read Palm Lines

Have you ever wondered what the palm of your hand says about you? Each line in your palm represents a different area of your life and tells a story or contains secrets about you as a person. Chiromancy, chirology or palmistry is the art of reading your own palm or that of others to foretell the future.

Palm reading can be fun, and it may reveal something about yourself that you never knew. The key to a successful palm reading is to read all the lines together to get a true, complete reading. Stay with us at oneHOWTO to learn how to read palm lines with this beginners’ guide to palmistry.

Steps to follow:

Most palmistry readings start with the hand that you use the most, that is, the dominant hand. From each line, you will be able to tell the future or to come to a hidden inner truth. While some palm readers consider other parts of the hand, such as the details of the skin, the shape of the hand — which is said to correspond to an element — or the length and shape of the fingers, in this beginners’ guide to palmistry we’ll focus only on the lines.

Before learning how to read palm lines, you need to identify the main lines of the palm. These are:

  • The heart line tells the reader about love, attraction, and your emotional side.
  • The head line tells the reader about your mind and intellectual side.
  • The life line tells the reader about your health, will and vitality — not about longevity.

If the head and heart lines are fused, the double line is called a «simian crease».

Other minor lines that not everybody has are the Gridle of Venus, which delates emotional intelligence; the line of the sun, which delates fame; the line of destiny or fate, which delates your path and choices; and the Mercury line or line of intuition, among others.

To begin reading your palm lines, start at the top. Look for the heart line, which begins on the left side of your hand and curves upward toward the index finger. The heart line shows emotions and everything related to love.

  • If this line begins just below the index finger, then you are satisfied with your love life.
  • If the line begins just below the middle finger, it means that you have a materialistic and selfish view of love.
  • If the line starts between the middle and index fingers, this means that you fall in love too easily.
  • A short straight line indicates a lack of interest in romance and sexual desire.
  • A line pointing down and touching the life line means it is easy to break your heart.
  • A long line with curves means you freely express emotions.
  • A line that is parallel to the head line and straight signifies that you have a good control over your emotions.

Identify the head line, which begins on the right hand side and ends in parallel with your ring finger. The line represents your intellect and mental health, and also reflects the way in which you think.

  • A curved line suggests that you are creative.
  • A short line means that you place further importance on physical achievements rather than mental achievements.
  • If your life line becomes separated from your head line, this means you are an adventurer and enthusiastic about life.
  • A wavy line indicates a lack of deep thought and a short attention span.
  • A deep long horizontal line indicates that you are centered and that you think clearly.
  • A straight line indicates realistic thinking.
  • A broken head line signals inconsistency in your ideas.
  • A head line that is crossed over marks transcendental choices.

Find the life line, starting on the right side of your hand near the edge and ending near the wrist. In palmistry, this line is known as the life line. Palm readers use it to tell what kind of life you will have.

  • A line near the thumb indicates chronic fatigue, while a curved line indicates a large amount of energy.
  • A long, deep line indicates a vital and healthy life.
  • A short and shallow line means your life is controlled by others.
  • A narrow and straight line to the end of the palm means that you keep away from relationships and are very cautious.
  • A line which forms a half circle indicates passion and strength.
  • More than one life line indicates that a positive or vital force is around you.
  • If there is a break on the life line it indicates a sudden change of lifestyle.

Identify the line of destiny or fate, which runs vertical in the middle of your hand, if you have it. When you read palm lines, this one indicates the degree in which your life is affected by external circumstances.

  • A deep line means that you’re deeply controlled by destiny.
  • Breaks and changes of direction mean that you’re prone to a lot of changes in your life generated by external forces.
  • If your destiny line starts at the base of the thumb and it crosses over the life line it means that you have the support of your family and friends.

Do you want to know if there’s a beautiful woman in your future? Or if a big promotion is waiting for you just around the corner? You could eat dozens of fortune cookies searching for the right answer or you could look inward and learn how to read palms instead. Cultures around the world have been turning to the fine art of palmistry for hundreds of years in an attempt to unlock the mysteries of the cosmos. Learn how to harness the extraordinary gift of palm reading by following the simple directions outlined below.

Select a volunteer

Although learning how to read palms can be practiced as a solo pursuit, it’s far more rewarding when you have a willing volunteer. Use your burgeoning gift to get closer to someone you fancy and spend the next half-hour side by side as you explore the wonders of their past and present. With any luck their future might just include you.

Select a hand

Traditionally, most palmists have advocated examining the left hand of women and the right hand of men. However, this approach will only give you half of the story of your volunteer’s life. Instead of limiting yourself to just one hand, take a closer look at both hands to see what deep secrets can be revealed. Many modern palmists now believe that a person’s non-dominant hand will show you their personality and proclivities, while their dominant hand will show you how they have applied their talents and ambitions in life. By using both hands when you read palms you can see where your volunteer has been and where they’re going to go.

Identify the four lines

In learning how to read palms, remember that each palm contains four distinctive lines that can be used to determine your volunteer’s character and fortunes. They include the heart line, which is located approximately one inch beneath your fingers; the head line, which can be found running parallel to the heart line; the fate line, which typically bisects the heart line and the head line; and the life line, which runs vertically from the center of your wrist to the space in between your thumb and index finger.

Interpret the heart line

The heart line reveals the emotional depth and sexual appetite of a person. A person with a long, deep heart line is prone to experience emotional extremes of love and hatred, while a person with a short or broken heart line is someone who controls their emotions and may even keep their feelings bottled up. People with a short and straight heart line are also likely to have a high sex drive and be more interested in one-night stands than long romances. When you read palms, beware of people with broken heart lines as they have likely experienced great emotional distress, or will experience it in the future.

What Does A Freckle On Your Palm Mean?

In general, Palmistry or Palm reading is considered as the art of using the lines on an individual’s palm to foresee many general things that can happen in his future life, and ascertain the latent character traits that he might or might not have been aware of. Being heavily applied by several different ancient cultures that leaded towards the results of palm reading, only a few people today tend to trust fully in the integrity of palmistry.

The truth is that there will be different techniques used in Palm reading in order to gain the insightful reading. Besides, there are also many primary and secondary lines which are stated to own a set meaning, relying upon the curvature and length of a person’s hand. Believe it or not, it is known as the traditional Palmistry. Nevertheless, other interpretations of this art occur which incorporate readings involving traits like the fingernail length, hair on the knuckles, skin pigmentation, the wrists, and other markings such as freckles or moles.

There will be the major and minor lines on all of the hands interpreted by the gifted and intuitive palmists. Because of the genetic differences in humans, several lines do not appear on someone’s hands. However, on a regular basis, there are 3 lines which are easily seen on almost all of the hands, and these lines often get the most care and attention from the practicing palmists. Their names are the Heart line, the Life line, and the Head line.

  • The Heart line: symbolizes the emotional affairs. It needs to be read with the way in which a subject will deal with the certain emotions.
  • The Head line: often represents the intellectual matters such as how a person is in gaining the new knowledge.
  • The Life line (known as the most important line): indicates the health and physical abilities of an individual whose palm is being interpreted.

A Freckle On Our Palm! What Does It Means?

According to lots of the Palmists, a freckle means nothing. Yes, it just denotes that we have a freckle on our hand. Someone can wonder what can take place to them when there is a freckle between their Head line and their Hear line. Generally, when the Heart line tends to commence with the fork, it may be a great sign of a happy, affectionate and well-balanced disposition. Besides, once the Heart line is low and then touching the Head line, our heart can interfere with the affairs of our head.

How To Read Your Palms

If there were a way to know your fortune – wouldn’t you want to find out what the future had in store for you? Well, you can!  And the answer is truly in the palm of your hand. Palm reading is a really fun and easy to learn form of fortune-telling: learning your lines and mounts can be as simple as following the steps in this article.

The History of Palmistry

Palm reading is believed to have originated in the Far East and is strongly connected to India and the Hindu faith.  The practice and acceptance of astrology and chiromancy spread to and through Europe by activity in the Papacy.

It is recorded that at least four popes in the sixteenth century exercised occult studies and astrology, including Pope Paul III (1534-1549). With papal practice popular, chiromancy and palm reading spread from the Vatican state through Italy and out to the rest of Europe.

With the advent of Pope Paul IV, however, things concerning divinatory science: including chiromancy rapidly changed. A papal edict was issued in the Index Expurgatorius (1559) which blacklisted forbidden studies. Not only was the study of subjects like chiromancy/palm-reading banned, but so were any books and authors writing on the occult arts.

As time went on and the hold of the Catholic Church over Europe slowly loosened, occult arts become more socially prevalent to the extent where now palm reading and other divinatory exercises are accepted and popularly practiced.

What is it, and how does it work?

Palm reading is the practice of interpreting a person’s character and fortune by ‘reading’ the various lines and mounts of one’s hand. In some traditions, the shape, sizes and characteristics of the fingers and fingernails, and the colour, shape and texture of the palm are read.

Palm reading as we know it today, has taken its roots from Greek mythology – taking on the framework of “Classical” palmistry. Each section of the palm and fingers is related to a specific god or goddess: and the features of that section indicate the nature of the subject and its respective characteristics. Some spiritualists state that the reading of one’s palm can be dependent on family traits or cosmological/astronomical beliefs.

The Reading

A reader begins with the ‘dominant’ hand – often the one the person writes with, or uses most often. The dominant hand is considered the represent the conscious mind, while the other hand concerns the subconscious. It is also thought that ideally, both hands should be read. Some palm readers believe that the left hand is representative of “what the gods give you” and the right is “what you do with what you do with what you have been given”: ones potential and their action.

There are four types of hands, which correspond to the four elements: earth, air, fire and water. From there, the lines and mounts are read as they represent different traits and characteristics. Here’s how to figure out what type of hand you have and how to read your lines:

The Hand Types:

Air Hands

Long and narrow, with square or rectangular palms and long fingers.

In palmistry, someone’s mental energy is envisioned beginning at the wrist and travelling the length of the fingers: therefore, the long palm indicates an active thinker, who is very curious and intellectual. Air-handed people are believed to be great communicators, who take great pride in being learned – they often find themselves bored at tasks they find too easy, and constantly feel the need to be mentally challenged.

Earth Hands

Large, wide and square-like palms, with generous and wide fingers, neither long nor short. Often appear quite dry and hard.

Earth-handed people are usually very practical and level-headed: their energy presents itself as steady, reliable and often resistant to change. These are the hands of the sensible, “get stuff done” sort, who would rather be out and about in the world than hanging around getting cabin fever! Generally, those with earth hands are very down-to-earth, pragmatic and not overly emotional.

Fire Hands

People with fire hands have wide and generous palms and look boxy, almost “stubby”: because of the shortness of the fingers.

An extremely stubby hand is a sign of a stubborn nature, especially when they have wide knuckles. The short palm indicates a hasty mind, which often correlates to how they approach decision-making. They beauty of fire-handed people is how they conceive new ideas and their passionate nature: albeit often short lived! Fire hands often find it difficult to “stick to their guns” – but command the centre of attention!

Water Hands

Water hands are long, much like air hands, but the quality in water hands is their immediate dampness or moistness on touch. Their palms are often soft and rounded with round mounts.

Water-handed people are highly emotional, with hearts of gold. They are highly motivated by emotional ‘currents’ in their lives: their emotional nature can be both positive and negative. They are extremely artistic and the energy of the hand and the soft rounded palm presents itself as gently as the person would.

The Lines

The heart line is about all matters concerning love.

A short heart line shows you have little interest in romance. A long, curvy heart line means you express feelings with ease and tact. A straight line running parallel to your life line means you are practical in affairs of the heart. A wavy heart line means what you would imagine – your love life follows a similar pattern! Ups and downs and many different love interests.

If your heart line starts under your index finger, you have a satisfying love life. If it starts beneath your middle finger, you are selfish in love. If it starts somewhere in between your first finger and your middle finger, you fall in love easily!

The head line shows intellect and wisdom.

A curved line shows creativity and spontaneity, while a straight line represents a more practical and structured person.

A short head line means you prefer physical activity rather than academic. A wavy line shows that you have a short attention span, while a deep, long line is evidence of a focused thinker.

If your head line is separated from your life line, it means you have a lust for life and an unquenchable thirst for adventure!

The life line represents one’s destiny or fate.

It also shows your character, as well as any important events that will happen in your life.

If your life line is very close to your thumb, it means you have low energy and are often tired, and a curvy life line shows that you have plenty of energy.

A long, deep life line shows your inner vitality, while a shallow life line shows you can be easily manipulated by others.

A break in the line shows major changes in lifestyle.

The fate line can be read with the life line to show the future (though not everybody has one)

A deep fate line shows that you are strongly controlled by destiny.  If there are a lot of breaks in your fate line, it means that the direction of your life may change many times.

A fate line that is joined to the life line shows that you have taken your fate into your own hands!

I hope that this article inspires you to try it out for yourself! There are plenty of additional sources online which show you how to read your mounts and finger shapes as well – have fun!

How To Read Palms: The Love Line

The Love Line In Palm Reading

Chiromancy or palmistry is the art of telling the fortunes of a person just by looking at the natural lines on their hands. It’s been a popular manner of personal divination for a very long time, and though it may look complicated, it is actually very simple in practice. The love line in palmistry can actually predict your love life! Find out how!

Palm readers have a reputation as being the sultry-looking, mysterious gypsy women in strange booths at carnivals, but in reality, anyone can practice palmistry with very little time spent practicing. The lines on a person’s palm are easy to interpret once you’ve memorized what each line means. Let’s take a look at the heart line or the love line to find out more about palmistry compatibility.

The heart line is the line that typically runs from the space between your index and middle fingers toward the little finger and generally runs off the side of the hand. It’s the highest full line, closest to the fingers. It represents everything to do with love and relationships.

If the line starts close to your index finger, this indicates that your love life is one you are comfortable with, or will soon be. It indicates that you have a satisfying love life, and that you are fortunate in your relationships.

If it starts in the middle of the two fingers, it means you are easy to persuade or seduce. You will often fall in love with strangers or become attached to people who show even a small amount of interest in you. If it starts closer toward your middle finger, it may indicate that you are self-centered or selfish in your decisions for relationships. It may also show that you seek fulfillment for yourself without taking too much care of your partners.

In palm reading, when your heart line actually touches the creases made by your finger joints or terminates in the webbing in between, it indicates that you have a great interest in romance and love, and seek to constantly be involved with someone else romantically. If it is shorter and does not connect, then it means you have a smaller interest, or perhaps no interest at all, in romantic relationships.

If your line starts or ends with feathery delicate wisps, it means that you are a romantic person, softer in the heart than you are lustful. If it sort of fades into existence with no clear start, it means you are passive in your love life, and that you are waiting for the “right one” to come to you. A strong, defined start to the line declares that you are aggressive in romance , and not only actively seek your partners, but may be more lustful than others.

The shape of the line is also important. A straight, neat love or heart line says that you treat your life life like you would treat a business: orderly and with care, to try to keep things organized. A wavy line means that you are likely a player or are easily swayed, and will likely have many partners over your life span.

A smooth curve in the love line indicates more creativity in your romantic expression, where a sharp angle represents a lack of outward expression made up for by passionate short periods. If it is a broken or non-constant line, it indicates trauma or problems in relationships, bigger depending on the size of the breaks.

Let’s take a look at the head line next.

How To Read Palms: The Head Line

Last article, we talked about the line that governs romance, this time, our palmistry discussion will tell you how to read the head line on your palm or someone else’s! Find out about someone’s intellectual potential with this information.

The head line is the line just below the heart line, generally starting high up toward the first knuckle of the index finger on the thumb side of the palm and running diagonally downward. It is the line that represents intellect, wisdom, intelligence, common sense, and all things related to the mind. Where the heart line deals with interactions with others, the head line deals mostly with a quality of the self.

head line

If your head line is curved or has waves in it, it indicates that you tend to be a free spirit and are inclined to take action now and ask questions later.

It denotes that you live your life based on creativity and artistry. A straight line indicates that you prefer to be purely practical, live by establishing schedules and routines, and generally are a constant and level person. A line with a sharp angle in it means that you have periods of creativity followed by periods of stagnation or self-doubt.

If your line starts in the webbing between your thumb and forefinger, it generally denotes that you have great interest in intellectual pursuits, philosophy and the like. If it terminates on the little-finger side of your hand, it means that you would prefer to live in a time of revolution or constant change than a time of constant peace and quiet.

A long line denotes that you value pursuits of the mind more than you do pursuits of the body. You might go to attend a lecture over attending a dance class. A short line represents the opposite, that you value bettering your physical body before valuing your mind.

If your line is shallow or feathery, it may indicate that you tend to have several things going on at one time, where a deep and clear-cut line indicates focus and concentration. A line that starts strong but ends feathery can indicate that you like to start new projects but rarely finish them.

Cat’s-eye shapes in your line indicate an intellectual challenge, some sort of hardship that must be overcome. Several of these might indicate a very rough mental period of time through which one must progress. If your head line and your heart line meet, it means that you are extremely careful or picky in your partners.

Hand Reading Guide For Beginners

Chiromancy, or palm reading, is the art using the palms of the hands to learn more about a person or tell their future. While it has roots deep within India’s past, today it is one of the most common methods of communicating with the divine.

Let’s take a look at some palm reading basics, including what the major lines mean.

Step 1: Choosing The Hand For The Reading

In palm reading, there is an active hand and a passive hand. Your dominant hand, or the one you use most often, is your active hand; your nondominant hand or the one you do not use often, is the passive hand.

  • The passive hand indicates inherited traits and should be read as a baseline.
  • The dominant hand shows changes from the inherited state, such as life events.
  • Major differences between the lines of the passive and dominate hand indicates the person has worked hard to develop themselves.

Step 2: Identify The 4 Major Lines of the Palm

The Heart Line

The heart line runs horizontally across the top of the palm.  It represents  both the physical and emotional state of your heart.

The Head Line

The head line runs horizontally across the middle of the palm, just below the heart line. it represents the physical and emotional state of your brain and mind.

The Life Line

The life line is the curved line that begins somewhere between the end that finger and thumb in curves downward toward the base of the sun. This line does not indicate how long you will live, but instead represents various strengths such as vitality and prosperity.

The Fate Line

Though this line is not present in everyone, it can be found at running vertically from the base of the palm and up to the middle. This line represents aspects of your life such as career path and success.

Step 3: Interpreting The Lines in the Palm

Interpreting The Heart Line

If the line starts below the index finger, it represents pickiness in terms of love. If the line begins below the middle finger, it shows selfishness in love. If it begins in the middle of the palm, it indicates the person easily falls in love. If the heart line is not present, this indicates the individual is ruled by logic instead of emotion. If the line is present at the fate line, this indicates the person places little importance on their emotions.

A straight, short, heart line represents a person who is not particularly worried about romance. A long and curvy line however indicates the person freely expresses their emotions. A wavy line indicates several relationships are lovers, without a serious relationship.

If the heart and head line run parallel to one another, this indicates the person has a good handle on their emotions. If the heart line and life line touch, this indicates the person gets their heart broken easily. If the heart line is broken or the heart line presents with smaller lines crossing through it – it could represent some emotional trauma. Chained lines indicated depression.

Interpreting The Head Line

If the head line is not there, it indicates a sluggish person. A faint line indicates the person lacks concentration and memory. A deep line  represents good memory and concentration.

A short line here represents a person who is practical. A long line indicates the person is focused and successful although they may have a tendency to be selfish. A straight line shows the person is logical, organized, and pays attention to detail. A wavy line indicates a short attention span. A curved or sloping line indicates someone who is highly creative.

If the head line begins at the life line, this indicates the person is strong-willed. A head line that is separate from the life line indicates an individual who has a strong sense of enthusiasm and adventure for life. A broken line indicates inconsistencies in thought. Crosses in line may represent crucial decisions that have an important effect on the fate. Chains in the line indicate emotional difficulty or personal conflict.

Interpreting The Life Line

If the line is not there, the person is thought to be anxious and nervous. Faint lines indicate low energy, while deep lines indicate a smooth life path. Long deep lines represent good health, while short deep lines show a person should be able to overcome health issues easily. Curvy lines represent abundant energy.

A line running to the thumb shows a person who easily tires. Breaks in the line means sudden changes in lifestyle. Broken lines on both hands may indicate serious illness or injury. Chained lines indicate the person is susceptible to many health problems that could take their life in a number of directions.

Interpreting The Fate Line

Finish the reading with the fate line, if it is present.  Deep lines mean the life will be controlled by fate. If joined at the life line, this indicates a self-made individual.
