How to hang a whiteboard – How to Hang a Whiteboard

How to Hang a Whiteboard

A big hurdle many whiteboard owners face is hanging their unit. A board may be an awkward fit for a desired wall space, or you may be worried about whether or not your cement-board wall will have the structural integrity to hold the weight of your whiteboard. Magnatag recently developed a technology that alleviates these worries, while making hanging a whiteboard easier.

However, one of the first things you must consider before hanging your whiteboard is location. Whiteboards are designed to be the focal point of a room, so the surface has to be easily accessible. Avoid hanging a whiteboard above a desk or table, as this acts as an obstruction when interacting with the board. You will also want to consider how high you want to hang your whiteboard. Given that you want to make the most out of your dry erase surface, a whiteboard should always be hung no higher than eye level. Here at Magnatag, we recommend lining up the center of the board with your chest. This way you will be able to easily write at both the top and the bottom of the board without trouble.

Whiteboards are traditionally hung on a studded drywall surface. Most companies recommend that you mount your whiteboard wall hangers directly into the (16 on center studs) in your wall. While this is a perfectly acceptable way to hang a whiteboard, it forces you to mount your whiteboard within 16 inches of your desired location. This can sometimes result in the board being 16 inches to the left or right of your ideal location. In addition, you may also use cement-board anchors to ensure that your whiteboard hangers stay in the wall and support your board in your desired location.

But perhaps your arrangement doesn’t allow for either of theses set-ups; an alternative method is to use a specialized tripod stand for hanging purposes. Tripod stands will not only protect your walls from damage, but they are also easily maneuverable, giving you the opportunity to move your whiteboard anywhere. However, tripod stands are extremely bulky, and can be easily knocked over, causing more of an issue than they are actually worth.

The research department at Magnatag set out to create a hanging device that could be screwed directly into the studs of your wall and still give you the flexibility to shift your whiteboard to your desired location.

Our FrameKlamp technology is the ultimate way to hang your dry erase surface. FrameKlamp’s are specially designed to work alongside any Magnatag-framed surface. Brackets are drilled directly into the wall, giving you a sleek design that minimalizes clutter. Once applied to the wall, the brackets allow you to easily slide your dry erase surface to the left or the right until you reached your desired location. With FrameKlamp’s, you no longer need to worry about anchor points dictating where you install your whiteboard. Once you have positioned your whiteboard into its desired location, you can push down on the clamp to secure the whiteboard to your wall.

If you find yourself having difficulties installing your own whiteboard system, Magnatag’s FrameKlamp’s may be the proper solution for you. Visit our website for even more details regarding our FrameKlamp technology.

How to Hang Whiteboard in Cubicles

A whiteboard can help you keep track of your work to-do list or communicate with colleagues. If you want to hang one from a cubicle, you won’t be able to use thumb tacks because the walls of most cubicles are too thin. Instead, you’ll need to find a creative hanging option that works within your employer’s restrictions for cubicle decorations.

Howard Jokela/Demand Media

Check the stability of your cubicle first. If the walls are thin and easily moved, they might not support even the lightest whiteboard, and certainly won’t support a large one mounted with heavy brackets. Tug slightly on the wall of your cubicle. If it gives, it’s too weak. In this case, try a whiteboard that can sit on your desk using a prop to hold it upright.

Howard Jokela/Demand Media

Affix partition hangers to your whiteboard if your cube has walls low enough to mount the board. Put the lip of the partition hanger underneath the outer rim of the whiteboard so that the other end of the hanger sticks up above the board. Some partition hangers may instead come with mounting screws or very strong tape that allows you to affix them to the board. After the partition hangers are affixed, secure them to your cubicle by positioning the top bracket over the top of your cubicle, allowing the whiteboard to hang down.

Howard Jokela/Demand Media

Use the hangers that came with the whiteboard to mount it directly to your wall. Many whiteboards come with small adhesive strips that work fairly well on non-porous or semi-porous cubicle surfaces. Simply peel the paper off of the back of each strip, positioning strips in each corner and several in the center of the board. Next, peel the paper off of the other side of the strip, and push against the cubicle wall. Hold in place for 10 seconds to allow the adhesive to grab onto the wall.

Warning

Avoid hanging very heavy whiteboards in areas of your cube where they could fall on you or someone else.

How To Hang A WhiteboardWhen it comes to hanging a whiteboard, the first thing to keep in mind is that you have to do it in such a way so that it rests firmly against the wall, and the reason for this is because you do not want the board to be moving around while you are writing. In fact, you should utilize this approach if you are using a magnetic whiteboard or dry erase board. While magnetic boards do not necessarily need to be completely fixed, it is still worth your while taking this approach, because it will just make the whole process of utilizing the whiteboard more comfortable. To hang a magnetic whiteboard or dry erase board, you will simply need to find a good area in your room, preferably one that is out the way yet easily visible and easy to approach when you will be using one of these magnetic boards or dry erase boards. Most whiteboards will come with four screws and some instructions. Your first step would be to mark the holes of the board in whatever position it is placed on the wall. After you have completed this step, the next step is to carefully drill into the four marked spots, and to make sure that you go deep enough to fit your plastic hollow anchors and screws. After you have completed this step, simply place the board so that its holes are aligned with the holes in the wall, and then begin to gently yet firmly place the screws into the wall to hold the board in firmly.Another way in which you can place one of these boards in your room without making holes in the wall is by using a special tripod stand. The way these tripod stands function is by keeping the board in place so that they do not move around while you are writing on them, without damaging any fixture in your home or office. The only problem with this approach is that the tripod will most likely take up a bit of space, and so if you have it in the office, things could get a bit cramped.Keep in mind that it is important to find a good location for your board, otherwise you will not be able to make the best use of it. In the end, your board can be used as a way to keep track of your schedules, to brainstorm, or as a means of presentation during meetings, so by having easy access to it, life becomes easier as well.

How to Clean a Whiteboard – Dry Erase Board Cleaning

Here’s how to clean a whiteboard so its surface is cleared of all dry erase marker residue:

Use a common microfiber cloth. Microfiber cloths, which are available from EverWhite, are better than other cloths at removing marker ink. Wash the microfiber cloth after several uses. You can use a whiteboard eraser to clean the surface, but make sure there are no sharp edges on the eraser or no sharp filaments in it. We offer free whiteboard surface samples that you can use to test the effectiveness of whiteboard erasers.

Download EVERWhite’s “How to Clean a Whiteboard” Document

Use water or common household glass cleaners. No harsh cleaners are required to remove marker ink from an EVERWhite board. Never use cleaners with abrasives. Can you use Windex® to clean a dry erase board? Yes, products such as Windex® are recommended for cleaning a whiteboard. Never use scouring pads or abrasive cleaners, as those can ruin the dry erase surface.

How to Remove Permanent Marker Ink from a Whiteboard

If someone inadvertently uses a permanent marker on a whiteboard, rather than a dry erase marker, it is often possible to remove the permanent ink. To do so, trace over the permanent marker ink with a dry erase marker. Then, wipe the board with a microfiber cloth, spray with Windex® or similar mild window cleaner, and wipe again.
If a permanent marker stain persists, call EVERWhite at 800-335-7319 for advice on your specific situation.

How to Remove Tape or Sticker Adhesive

To remove adhesive from tape or stickers on an EVERWhite whiteboard, use a common adhesive remove such as GooGone® and a soft cloth. Never use abrasives or scraping tools which can damage the surface.
