London Calling — Top Documentary Films

You have to understand that in the world of media propaganda the only people who has the last say to protect the people from the unbiased, and unedited versions are the governments. What they decree inside of the congressional offices are when a news reporter finishes his or her story on site, it has to go through multiple channels for censorship, editing, condensing, and rearranging dialogue so that the final product is aired on time with two or more casted anchors who are nothing more than white teeth, and clear complexions.

News today is far from what it was thirty years ago when journalists used their feet to get the job done in the field, such as in Vietnam, about Watertgate, Waco texas, and Jones Town. Atrocities recorded for the mainstream of television is nearly dissected to the limits leaving that little bit censored by the government as the real story because in their view point the public would be too disturbed or childish to accept the real facts without chopping up the story to shreds. This is how public opinion is created. At the very basic levels once a story is released showing only what it supposed to be seen, and heard. Anything else is too much of a catalyst which kick starts demonstrations, revolutions, or lynching by angry people who cannot afford to listen to reason.

Right now as it stands the only unbiased alternative is the internet for its complete raw footages of stories, reports from freelance journalists, and on the site crews who hate the fact that their reports would be confiscated by greedy and undeserving corporations who wish to hide dark agendas from the public like Wal-Mart, Monsanto seeds, Du Pont, and a host of other entities who would not appreciate their faces on camera. The governments around the world do not want critical thinkers, or people who can make a quick judgment call about health, fuel, power, oil, alternative energies and scarcity issues for perishable goods.

They want naïve bubbles to just stop — listen — and do what they are told. The truth is by far the most dangerous item on earth, and not one banker, or corporate mogul assigned to the government wants what ever secret to be exposed for what it really is. This is why the BBC, ABC, NBC, and now even CNN have become puppets for the governmental body. Without money… the world comes to a stand still, and when there is no story to be told… who becomes the beneficiary? You do.

How to Call London From New York

Placing a call to London can be easy. (Photo: London image by Ripa from Fotolia.com )

Is that London calling? No, actually, it’s time to call London instead. Even though New York is relatively close to the capital of the United Kingdom, you still have to place an international call to make your voice heard on the other side of the Atlantic. You can call straight from a landline or a cellphone, but don’t forget to check costs and consider a few tricks for saving money on what can end up being a very pricey phone call.

Landline to Landline

Whether you’re on a landline in New York City’s infamous Hell’s Kitchen, or dialing from a cottage in upstate New York, here’s how to dial a London landline from your own landline: First, dial the exit code that tells your phone you’re placing an international call. In the United States, that number is 011. Next, dial the country code; for London (or anywhere in the United Kingdom), that’s 44. Then, dial the area code for London, which may be written as 020, but, since you drop the leading zero on international calls; you’d only dial 20. Then finally, dial the eight-digit phone number. Here’s another way of looking at the number you’d dial in which XXXX-XXXX is the landline number:

Tip
  • Putting dashes between phone numbers is customary in the United States, but most European phone numbers, including those in the U.K., are written with spaces between digit groupings instead of dashes. So if a European person sends you dialing instructions, it’ll probably be written as 011 44 20 XXXX XXXX.

Calling a UK Mobile Phone

Calling a mobile phone in the U.K. works just the same as calling a London landline, except that the 020 area code is replaced by a number starting with 07. Treat this as the area code, and remember to drop the leading zero when placing an international call, so dial 011-44-7X-XXXX-XXXX. Note that if a U.K. friend sends you their mobile number, the digits might be grouped differently, but as long as you drop the leading zero, it’s the same number of digits.

Calling From a Mobile Phone

You can place either of these same calls from a mobile phone, too. Smartphones also offer a shortcut to placing international calls: Instead of dialing the international exit code, just tap and hold the zero until you see the + sign on your screen. This replaces the international exit code, so all you have to do after that is to dial the country code, area code and phone number.

Using Voice Over Internet

Most Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) clients, such as Skype, allow you to dial an international call manually as described once you pull up the app’s version of a phone keypad. Some also offer a walk-through option that lets you select the country you’re calling via a pull-down menu instead of having to keep the country code in mind.

Saving Money on International Calls

Even today, international calls can be prohibitively expensive. So if you call London frequently, it’s well worth taking a few minutes to price your alternatives. Some landline phones and most major mobile carriers offer international calling plans that can save you a lot of money on per-minute costs. VoIP clients may offer inexpensive international rates too. But don’t forget the old-fashioned prepaid phone card. You can use these cards from any phone, and placing an international call is as easy as dialing the access number listed on the back of the card, then following the prompts.

Chances are you probably already know all about London, but for those out there who may not, here are some fun tidbits about this amazing city:

London has been around since the time of the Romans — the original founders of the city, which was first called Londinium — but it is a truly modern metropolis. Home to the recent 2012 Summer Olympics, London is the capital of the United Kingdom and considered the other financial center of world, next to New York. If you’re visiting this enormous city, be sure to take some time to stroll by the Thames or to enjoy a ride on its famous double decker buses! Samuel Johnson famously said, “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life,” and we couldn’t agree more!
